Hints and tips for ordering a kitchen
One of our expert fitters has thought of a few fool proof ways to help order the correct amount of components, and give advice on beginning the installation of your kitchen, if you are fitting it yourself.
Marking up
Marking up correctly is vital to installing your kitchen, we have developed a list of measurements to clarify at what height items should be fitted.
From the floor measure 860mm, this point will be the top of your base units.
From the top of the base units, measure to 900mm, this point will be the top of your work surfaces.
From the top of the work surfaces, measure to 1400mm, this point is the bottom of the wall units.
From the bottom of the wall units, measure to 2070mm, this is the point where the hanging brackets will sit for each wall unit.
From the hanging brackets: 2120mm is the measurement of the top of the wall units.
What a fillet pack includes
A fillet pack includes several lengths of carcasing that you will use as spaces and fillets when fitting your kitchen.
A pack includes: 2 x the following sizes; 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 80mm & 100mm - all are 900mm in height.
We recommend purchasing one fillet pack per kitchen. If any other fillets are required, please do not hesitate in contacting us. Any other lengths you require can be purchased from the website, where a courier charge will be added.
How much to order?
Allowing for mitres on such components as cornice, light pelmet and plinths can be confusing, or forgotten altogether - luckily we have all the information you require to order the correct amounts, first time!
Cornice: When being worked out measure the run of each piece you will need above your wall units, then add an additional 400mm per return at the end of each run. Finally allow 100mm per mitre, as this allows for the mitre waste.
Light Pelmet: When working out the amount of light pelmet you will require, measure each full run underneath your wall units and add 400mm for each return. Finally add an additional 50mm per mitre, as this allows for mitre waste.
Work surfaces: Measure the entire lengths of the runs in your room, (for example an L-shape kitchen has 2 runs, therefore one mitre. A U-shape kitchen has three runs requiring 2 mitres. And a galley kitchen has no mitres at all.) Then add 100mm per mitre to your final calculation, this allows for the mitres and scribing of the work tops.
Plinths: With plinths, leave a gap of approximatly 10mm at the top to enable you to grip it, if it needs to be removed., Scribe them if necessary. If tall units (eg: oven towers, larder units or larder pull outs) are incorporated in your design, order an extra plinth to use as fillets.
Also, as a final tip: We recomend that you order 1 extra handle, in case of any eventualities.
